Lotus Emira 2.0 Reverse gear issue

I have the issue with both reverse and drive gears. No matter how patient I am, I could try to engage gear 30 times and it still will not work. The only thing that I seem to be able to do to get out of the predicament is........for reverse gear failure, I try and engage drive 1st and move the car a few inches and then reverse will then work. Vice versa, if 'drive' gear fails, I engage reverse and move the car and then it usually engages. Very frustrating!
My i4 is booked for 4 recalls, one being the ECU recall in November. Not sure if this has anything to do with the gearbox but I certainly hope it does, as this seems to be happening a lot.

Hopefully you get your car sorted out. Mine was okay in forward gear but woeful, in reverse. Now a couple of quck taps on the lever and it engages the gear you requested, so much better!

My cars in the shop on Wed & Thu, getting an error message looked at and they are doing 4 recalls at the same time, one for the HVAC cover and 3 s/w updates, so hopefully one of those covers the gear change issue

Could I ask how proactive are Lotus regarding these recalls/updates, are they contacting you or is it a case of you having to contact the dealer to find out about them?

I happened to call with the dealer for another matter, when the service guy told me about the update. He said that he’d only just found out about it, hadn’t had any advance notice about it from Lotus.

I would say not proactive at all, I am only getting the updates due to the car going in for something else.
If you think you have any pending, call a dealer and ask them to check, they only need your reg number

Cheers for that, I've just rang them and it appears the update was released three days after they carried out the PDI on my car, so I just missed out on it. So they've booked it in for the update in a couple of weeks time.

Is there actually an ID (name, number, date etc) associated with this (AMG gearbox update? Does anyone know⁉️

Mercedes (AMG) 8G-DCT (724.1) robotic gearbox

I had all the latest software updates applied this morning and I'm pleased to confirm that the ponderous R - N - D shifts are fixed now. It's near instantaneous and certainly no longer than any other auto box I've used.

Although I didn't have a big problem with the manual shifts from new, there is also a marked improvement in these too. It's especially noticable on the downshift. I wasn't able to provoke any significant stutters or delays. It's still not quite as satisfying as the best of the best but it's definitely way better than the original reviews suggested and somewhat better than at delivery.

That's great news! Mine is going in on Thursday for this issue and I can't wait. It has been making me somewhat embarrassed/nervous about driving my car at all recently, because it's happening so frequently (just refusing to enagage gear at all!) and even better news that it should improve the manual shift change!

Hi - how long does it take to do the update. Is it a "while you wait" job?

how long does it take to do the update
Hard to say as I was also getting a fix done on the suspension. However, they managed to do both in under 2 hours so I would expect the updates to be easily while you wait.

Slight thread drift but related
I know somoene went in for s/w updates, one of which was the Reverse gear fix, but then also came out with the 400bhp update too. Anyone remember who that was and has anyone else got that update too?
