USA/Canada Delivery Thread

I agree with you if you have a confirmed contract that states the exact price of purchase and is signed by both you and the dealer.
Anything outside of that is really up to the Dealer and Lotus on how they want to handle it.
Key is you don’t need a signed document to have a contract.

So long as the three elements below have been met you have a contract which I believe to be the case for confirmed FE orders.

  • Offer - One of the parties made a promise to do or refrain from doing some specified action in the future.
  • Consideration - Something of value was promised in exchange for the specified action or nonaction. ...
  • Acceptance - The offer was accepted unambiguously.
I want to stay optimistic that Lotus will get this right.

Just my perspective as someone who sold cars many years ago. If your dealer agrees with you, great. You have a fantastic dealership. If your dealership disagrees with you and feels they promised nothing more than MSRP, then you can try to fight that battle in court if you want, but it will cost more than the $10K.
Just goes back to my overall stance. It's really up to the dealer on how they are going to handle things. Some dealers are good, most are not.

Well this could very well mean Lotus is going to continue making FEs and not offer any Base edition for another year. After all, how can they? Building one off base models is infinitely harder to build than fully loaded FEs with different color combo.

1) It could mean any deposits placed after 3/8/2023, is subjected to the 104k hike.
2) Deposit placed before 3/8/2023 gets the car for MSRP sent out on October 1st 2022.

For clarification, my dealer was told the first cars (aka the first First Edition V6 Emira customer cars) won't land in the US until November 2023. This is unbearable. I was told I can cancel and get my deposits back and he's already had 2 others do just that this week. 😤

Just received an email from Lotus;

“Thank-you Long term deposit holders, we have appreciated your interest free loans. Now that production is ready, you can take back your devalued deposits or choose to pay our new inflated pricing. At Lotus we don’t always intend to deceive, just with customer service”

I am not surprised about the increase. I say again this was all planned. Probably timed perfectly with the release for US reviews to get new customers to replace us.

Idk, for me the question is never "will I or won't I buy the car". It's only what makes the wait bearable. Could mean buying a stop-gap. If I had known in May 2022 that delivery wouldn't be until fall 2023, I'd have an Evora or an Exige in the driveway.

Otherwise nothing has changed for me, in that this Emira is last-call for this type of vehicle. It's raging against the dying of the light(ness?).

So this means the July estimate that was just released is now November? Are you and I both working with Ray at North Jersey Lotus? This is getting obsurd.

So did they say anything at all about your pricing going up?

So a 10.6% price increase in the US when UK got 8%, and that's including the favorable exchange rate right now. I'm not sure Lotus could slap their customers across the face more times if they tried. Unless they suddenly announced no more manual transmissions due to supply chain shortages or something even more absurd. I've been holding strong for a very long time, but now dangerously teetering on the edge of canceling and never considering Lotus again... sigh
I agree. I sent an email to my dealership noting the price increase on the configuration website. If I don’t get any useful information by next Wednesday I’m canceling.

Locked in to the original pricing. So that's one positive, I guess.

I love the car and this forum, but I'm really starting to hate the brand. Such a disappointment.

Good to know, I ask because I emailed my dealer and if they give me different information I want datapoints for compare with. November is a _long_ ways away.

I am very close to switching from "enthusiastic early depositor, brand evangelist" to "I will never deal with this company again in any form, and will advise my friends likewise". Still on the fence but just barely.

I love what they build and why, but how they've gone about this whole thing is madness. A little honesty and straightforwardness would have gone a long way. They've a small boutique brand for purists working their way into a big market, and they have a big hit on their hands... honor the people that are fans, and supporting you by just telling it like it is.

My 2cents which doesn't mean much, but I feel all Emiras will be 1st Editions but without the badging. All "ordered" cars with build confirmation will be delivered at original said price and everyone with a "deposit" that has been on the list that does not have a build confirmation will get a non-badged 1st Edition at new said price. As another member said, I couldn't imagine Lotus at this point trying to configure cars based on specific options on a base model. Again my 2cents.

I am not understanding the November delivery. Does this mean no more April start to production?

THis makes perfect sense and what I would like to see. It would help the factory build process as well. So no way Lotus will do it. makes too much sense.

The proper way to handle these changes (increases, delays) is to let the customers (with orders/deposits) know directly through email ahead of time. Not to let it slip out and do damage control after.

It means they didn't get certification or approval for US yet, as I expected. It also means that if they do start production in April then our cars will sit for months like the early UK cars and likely have issues with the brakes, etc.

I think a lot of people submitted "non refundable" 2nd deposits/order submission money based off the published MSRP that was provided on the order form. I personally would be pissed if they try and raise the price when it's listed on the order form.

Can I go visit my car and care for it?
