Carplay volume glitches with driving directions

When I'm using Carplay, either wired or wireless, with driving directions, I have a funny problem. When I'm listening to music or a podcast, and the driving directions from Waze or Google Maps speak, the volume is lowered to hear the directions. However, the volume doesn't return to its previous value, so with each directions update, it gets quieter and quieter, and I'm constantly increasing volume as I use Carplay based navigation.

The same phone doesn't have this issue in my other car when using Waze or Maps. (It's a 2017 PCM 4.0 Porsche with wired Carplay).

So, I'm pretty convinced this is an Emira glitch,

Has anyone else seen this? I've fiddled with speed sensitive volume adjustment in case it's buggy, but it doesn't seem involved.

I have this - drives me nuts!!!!!!! I have fiddled with the volumes for months to no avail! As you say in other cars it isnt an issue

Praying someone has a fix.

Same issue here. Only happens when I'm listening to Audible though. No issue when listening to Apple Music, which does return to the previous volume.

It's probably going to be one of those things that we just have to live with........

I Have exactly this issue as well. Only on podcasts for me.

The other thing that winds me up is that I cannot scroll around the map when using CarPlay - Waze, Google Maps, Apple Maps. But when using the native SatNav, scrolling around the map is available. Weird.

My carplay has been problematic ever since I updated my iPhone. (SE to 14). Wireless used to work flawlessly. Now with the iPhone 14 carplay bricks every time after just a few minutes, esp when using google maps. I tried wired and wireless same result. I've given up on the Emira carplay.

That sucks. This may sound silly, and maybe it doesn't apply to the OP, but anytime I have CarPlay issues and I go in and out of airplane mode 50% of the time its fixed. If its not fixed, I turn my iPhone on and off and 100% of the time my issue is fixed.

May be silly but give it a try. This is what worked for me, after being frustrated so many times.

I have had a lot of CarPlay bricking issues with many phones ... out of interest what apps are you using when it bricks?

I currently havent had it brick in a month - the fix for me was to not use Google Maps (I have no idea why). Since switching to Apple Maps its works flawlessly.

Just for your reference, not saying you should change phones - the same does not happen with Android Auto. The music volume is reduced during the "alert" but goes back to the same volume afterwards. So likely a Car Play thing not anything to do with the Emira software.

Interesting to know .... the odd thing is, it doesnt do this in any other car I own or have access to.

For me, it's a combination of Waze combined with either Podcasts, Pandora, or just music in my library.

The reason I think it's a bug in Emira software is that I I've never had this issue with this phone in either my wife's Subaru, my Cayenne or even the CP-71W headunit in my Elise.

Haven't had this issue so far. Maybe resetting the infotainment would help?
If anyone can figure out how to do a hard reset please post. I've tried every button combo I can think of and can't find a way to hard reset the infotainment while the car is powered on

I believe its pressing and holding the pause/play on button on center console for 10+ seconds.

This is literally THE WORST and such a pain. The whole dropdown to adjust the different volumes in the infotainment, including the 'master' volume is bonkers. Certainly it's their implementation of CarPlay that's the issue. As others have shared, it does not function this way in other cars...and some people get rental cars regularly for work travel so it's not for a lack of small sample size. I've just turned off the navigation voice unless I'm truly going to somewhere unfamiliar or expect to be distracted by conversation.

They certainly didn't simplify anything like the company motto implies when they designed the volume sliders on this thing.

I hope that in due time, we come up with enthusiast written software that works better. I've written this kind of software years ago, and there are a bunch of VWAG cars using my code as we speak. Most manufacturers get the cheapest computer money can buy, and run the most off-the-shelf software they can find and glitches result. I've not dug into the Emira's system yet, but I bet you it's some generic Geely software stack, maybe using Android or QNX which are common. One day, I'll fix it, if Lotus doesn't :)
