I'm out - the cancellations thread

I think you and all who were asked to "Lock-in" their order in August/September were deceived. With no guarantee on a build or delivery date, you were asked to give an additional deposit which forced most folks to buy the car at some unknown date in the future. Yes, unfortunately you were conned! Lotus appears to be a third rate company, says one thing, does another - does not keep their word.
And on top of that adding a $2300 destination charge!

Let's be clear about one thing - the locked in order is from the dealers not Lotus HQ.

A dealer could refund your "locked in" order at anytime if they want to. Obviously if you sign that it is non-refundable then that is an agreement between you and the dealer. It may come down from Lotus USA that this is the common practise and other brands do the same. Only difference is when you receive an allocation there is a time frame to deliver the car. This is where Lotus HQ gets the blame on not being able to deliver on their word.

3 model years of F/E cars will be rolling out of Hethel - First ones in late 2022 until Early 2025 i4's.... Never seen anything like it. Most manufacturers refresh the cars by then!

My dealer called me on August 16th, and told me I had to lock in by the 19th. After the wait to get to this point, to give me three days to finalize, I told em go scratch. He told me he could sell V6s for 10k over MSRP. And now in the UK you can get them for 10 k less!! Now they can’t give i4 slots away.

I assume these 500 initial cars will all be FE 1.0's? Or does nobody know yet?

Very relieved they're finally shipping the cars they were supposed to 18 months ago, but if my FE 2.0 isn't ready for delivery by April 2024 it becomes considerably more difficult for me to take delivery due to job commitments. So tired of this journey. Even if it's the best car I've owned, this will be my first and last Lotus. I'm not sure they could make it a more disorganized or frustrating experience if they tried. Fingers crossed the car drives fantastically in order to make up for it.

Officially out - hope everyone enjoys their Emira’s. Waiting another 1-2 years for a base car is just a bridge too far for me. I am sure the car itself will be absolutely fantastic. The rollout, customer service and dealer network are not on par with spending 100k+. It’s been a great time here with everyone and perhaps I will one day return if I notice some change within Lotus a few years down the road.

Big shout out to all the forum members - the community here is far better than most and almost worth the pain of dealing with Lotus HQ. Although the factory visit this summer was a fantastic experience! They do have passionate people that work there - just not sure if the right person in managing the ship.

All the best to everyone!

No no no. Is there a reason you have to cancel? Have you already canceled? I hope you will reconsider.

Thank YOU for being an awesome forum member. Sorry to see you go. I know it's a tough decision (one I made as well), but I hope you stick around and check in occasionally. The Emira is an awesome car and Lotus will get things running right... soon. 😉

Already voiced my main concerns in the US/CAN thread - But basically dealer / Lotus are woefully handing out allocations - I deposited in 2021 and there will be customers that ordered a year or more after me that will be receiving an Emira this spring. I do not even get an allocation for a build slot, which means no Emira until 2025 best case scenario / who the hell knows when. This was the main reason and coupled with a very serious concern of Lotus being able to effectively service cars is another major one. To many red flags, to many other cars to drive and time is more important to me at the moment. Still have the 718 Spyder to enjoy next summer - bought a Thruxton RS - and will be looking at adding the V10 R8 Manual or a 997.2 Turbo. I still poke around here and there, but I won't be as active going forward.

You will be missed. You deserved better. May you have great luck in your future automotive pursuits.

Well crud. Like others, I too am sorry to see you go. Especially after all this time. Once Lotus gets certifications, maybe things will speed up and availability will improve.

Wish you well and sorry to see you go. I am a 718 Spyder owner and, like you, was excited about what I think is a great (almost perfect) garage combo. I am still a deposit holder (base model) but am growing tired as well of the Lotus way. I have started looking at CPO 991.2 Turbo and will drop if I find a spec I like. I love my Spyder and can’t imagine a 991.2 Turbo would disappoint. I know it will be more money but the certainty, quality and performance will help. Take care.

Argh, I don't follow this thread anymore and so I just spotted this post by chance! So sorry to see you go, you will be missed! I agree with you about this forum, though — it's been a definite highlight for me personally over the past couple of years. Clearly the Emira has drawn a lot of passionate, smart, funny people together here, and it's just a shame that Lotus wasn't able to keep those good vibes rolling for you.

All the best with your next car adventures!

Early on I was so excited and couldn't wait. Finally at a point in my life where I could buy a $100k car, and even more perfect that it was going to be a Lotus. I used to have wallpapers and screensavers of the early Elise, then fell in love with the 400. Once I heard about the Emira I put money down. I was in Portugal back in June and took time out of my vacation to tour the body manufacturing plant. Then in October while in Mainland China I took a detour for a couple hours to the dealer in Shenzhen so I could see an Emira up close.

However I am officially out as of yesterday. Here is why:
-My i4 order was pushed out AGAIN, and as many know it is now Q1 or Q2 2025. I wanted a 'fun' car a year ago, not waiting another 14-18 months.
-I was in China a month ago and they had I4s on the showroom floor. Says something about Geely that they will have I4s sitting on the showroom floor in China, but make the USA wait another year. Something stinky here.
-If they can't figure out how to get a date right for delivery, what the heck will happen when I OWN the car and something breaks?
-There is no Lotus dealer near me, and their inability to figure out a delivery schedule gives me zero confidence that I would be able to get any support when the nearest dealer is 6 hours away.

I am sad as I don't like Porsche, and cars like the C8 are just too big. Maybe I'll just pick up an old NSX or MR2. Or, based on what I am reading, if I still want one in 1 1/2 years it sounds like the i4s will be readily available.

Thank you everyone on this forum for the insight, photos, and conversation, it has been a pleasure. Eric Crawford from Boise ID - Out.

Honestly, I think you have many valid points. My nearest dealer is only about 2 hours away (still far but close in comparison) and I have some concern about that aspect. Also, I'm a V6 FE buyer so the delays were minimal but given the situation with the massively delayed i4s, I for one do not blame you at all. Out of curiosity, is there any particular reason you're after the i4 and not the V6 (auto or manual)?

I wanted an automatic. I love manuals, but appreciate the faster shifts and daily driver friendliness of a paddle box. I also believed that the i4 had more HP potential than the 6. Many moons ago I drove an Eagle Talon TSI that was turbocharged and I actually got a kick out of the turbo lag, thought it was fun. Plus, as an airplane guy turbos have a similar sound to a turbine, which makes my insides tingle. :)

I would look at used Honda S2000 along with NSX or MR2.
