Important update for anyone looking for V6 FE auto insurance (UK specific) – part 2 (see post #202 this thread for part 1)
More positive news to report
Direct Line Select has advised that their underwriters have confirmed that there is no material difference from a risk perspective between the V6 FE auto and the V6 FE manual. With this in mind they are able to provide auto quotes, that are priced the same as manual cars.
As you will be aware, some insurance companies require driver recognition trackers and Direct Line Select (who only insure cars above £75K) insist on a tracker being fitted for the theft element of the policy. This can be a factory fitted tracker or third-party tracker as long as it meets the technical specifications required.
The insured party could choose not to fit a tracker, but they would not be covered for theft. I can’t imagine how anyone would want that risk!
Interestingly, Direct Line Select offer a brand new like for like vehicle replacement in the first 24 months as long as you have owned the vehicle from new. This may be of particular interest to anyone who feels that gap insurance is necessary as this may negate the need for the gap policy. I have never had this type of cover and I don’t know anything about it, please do your own research if this may be relevant to you.
They provided me with a quote of £542 (age 59, wife 56 on policy, 8,000 miles per annum, kept on drive, CW12 postcode, 20+years NCD, no accidents/convictions), this is compared to my best manual quote of £330 which was with the RAC (via confused.com)
Hopefully, all of us auto folk that are checking out will hear something very soon now. I wonder if Lotus are waiting for the insurance details to filter through to the insurers systems, which should happen in the coming days. I think if I was the Lotus finance guy I would be screaming and shouting to get these cars out and the money in!
