USA/Canada Delivery Thread

Hello again everyone,

We had a dealer conference this afternoon to discuss Emira orders and production updates. I have detailed all of the information discussed below...

V6 Manual—
  • 83% of Emira orders submitted in North America were for a V6 Manual. Because of this, V6 Manuals were prioritized for production and homologation.
  • We are still waiting to receive CARB certification for V6 Manual Emira. We expect completion by the end of January (2024).
  • 500 V6 Manual Emira are being shipped to North America now. These will arrive in several large batches, with the first due at port next week. We will receive an update on which cars are coming first in the next few days.
  • These vehicles will be shipped to retailers in EPA states before receiving CARB certification. However, no Emira will be sold/delivered to customers until we receive CARB approval.
  • Please note that all vehicles must go through port processing and U.S. customs before being transported to dealers. This may take up to a week or two.
V6 Automatic—
  • Lotus had to prioritize V6 Manual certifications to fulfill their promise of delivering cars before the end of this year. Because of this, V6 Auto certifications will come later, with first customer deliveries expected in mid-2024.
  • Previously submitted orders for V6 Auto Emira will maintain their 'First Edition' status and be model year 2025 vehicles.
  • This delay also applies to dealer demonstrators if an Automatic V6 was ordered.
Turbo I4—
  • Supply chain constraints have caused a production delay for Turbo I4 Emira. These orders are now expected to arrive at the beginning of 2025.
  • U.S. homologation for I4 Emira will be completed in late 2024, with customer deliveries beginning in early 2025.
  • A fleet of I4 demonstrator vehicles has been ordered and is expected to arrive in Q1/Q2 of 2024. We will invite all our reservation holders once a test drive opportunity becomes available!
Other Takeaways...
  • To provide some relief for the wait, previously submitted Turbo I4 and V6 Auto orders will temporarily be unlocked to allow minor changes. Please note that this does not include the option to change drivetrain choice, and these orders cannot be cancelled. Let us know as soon as possible if you'd like to make any changes to your order. Again, this only applies to Turbo I4 and V6 Auto orders already submitted to the factory for production.
  • Lotus Cars USA did not have visibility of the U.K.'s production schedule until recently. Moving forward, we will receive regular (monthly) updates and be able to provide better information about submitted orders.
  • Lotus has configured the Emira's Destination Charge to be $2,350. This will be included in your vehicle's Total MSRP.
  • Canadian market Emira should receive their certifications around the same time CARB is completed in the USA.
  • No vehicles will be held or stored at port, as previously speculated.

If you have any questions about the above information, please call me directly at (317) 245-6312.

Thanks this is helpful, Tony. I'd be out if I was waiting for the I4 or Auto.

I'm going on record saying there won't be any delivered in NA this year. There will be further delays at the ports and customers won't be told anything until December at the earliest.

Well, what do I win? :ROFLMAO: To be fair, I guessed customers wouldn't be informed until December about the delay, but Gator came through with just 4 days to spare!!

Seriously though, thank you for the update @GatorMotorsport - Some dealers might not relay these updates to customers for weeks (or at all). You guys are top notch!

So your order can’t be cancelled is some BS!!!!!

Interesting how a shit ton of orders went in this past August and September, most with, purported, additional deposits. Now, a few months later, admission of delays with the potential for significantly even more delays and no cancellations allowed.

If I wasn’t “fortunate” enough to get my July ‘21 deposit converted into a build config in early August I’d be gone after this latest news

The only silver lining I can see from this shitshow is that US buyers will have a chance to go take a good look at the car while it's impounded at the dealership to check for misaligned body panels, door bubbling, configuration errors, A/C functionality before making final payments. I really don't know where Bellevue is going to store 40 cars though.

Edit: it's a toss-up who Lotus treats worse: the customers or the dealers. I figure the only thing worse than having no product to sell for 2 years is having to warehouse and take financial responsibility for a bunch of product you still can't sell, all through no fault of your own.

Yeah there was a HUGE push for 2.0, automatics and I4's a few months back. SUCKERS....

Now we just need an update for those who didn't get a FE 1.0 or 2.0 and are waiting for a BASE. I think those deposit holders need some news. If anyone speaks to a dealer ask them about this. I am FE 2.0, but for the longest time I thought I was BASE. It's a bittersweet day considering V6 Auto and I4. Let's all wait for the CARB ball to drop.

When I asked about my i4 build here is what I got back as a response. At least it was quick and means I spend another year with my 911 before adding the Emira to the garage.

Christopher:

This news is, unfortunately, correct. We were just notified of it this morning and are in fact still waiting on a formal dealer bulletin before we make an official notification.

From what I can gather at this stage is:

1. Your vehicle will still be badged as a First Edition
2. You will be able to make edits to your order specs if you wish to
3. I believe your price will be protected and I will confirm this for you as soon as possible

More info to follow, but in advance, please know that we are equally frustrated by this news and will be communicating a more official announcement in the next day or so.

Those people will see their stuff in 2026. I wish I was kidding.

I hope not. Before getting a FE 2.0 I thought I would receive my BASE car in Q1 or Q2 of 2025. Maybe some of the numbers folks can do the math. If 500 FE cars are made and heading this way Lotus should have all FE cars done by January with the exception of AUTO and I4. I assume all other market FE's are close to completion so BASE production should start by Q2 or Q3 2024. I know I know, speculation. I just want BASE folks to get something. Even if it's when they will open on the configurator for BASE.

Does anyone else feel uneasy about the car sitting around for up to 2 months until CARB approval (assuming it's at the back of January worst case scenario)? For my dealership I have very little confidence it won't be constantly messed with by people dropping by to check them out 😅.

They won't have a single car delivered to a customer until at least February - that doesn't fulfill any end of year delivery promise. Do they really think it counts that they are putting cars on dealer lots that cannot be sold to an actual customer?

Not to mention those of us who ordered an auto taking delivery after manuals that were ordered later than ours. Lotus can't manage certification for more than one model at a time? Especially when probably 90% or more of that process would be identical?

I've been pretty quiet and patient with this whole ordeal over the last two years. This is purely another toy for me, and it's not urgent that I have it. But I've also run a business for 20+ years and it astounds me to have witnessed such incompetence over and over from another business. I don't know why Geely hasn't cut their losses and shut Hethel down already. They can put the Lotus badge on whatever they want with or without Hethel.

Any damage they will have to fix or refuse the sale.

They can't sell the cars, maybe they will rent them out on Turo to help defer costs. ;)

Do we know anything about the extent of US/NA "First Edition" cars? They extended it once to "FE2" for the V6. With these delays for the V6 Auto and the I4/DCT - are they going to produce base V6 before the I4 FE? Or will they just add more "first edition" V6 manuals to fill the gap with higher spec cars?
