USA/Canada Delivery Thread

As if that wasn't enough, this FINALLY happens with my car having sat at the Austin dealer for months and the timing of the release is terrible for me! I got hit with a... financial challenge that may be my undoing. I may have to give up the Emira. šŸ˜¢
Is there a way to flip.it for a few grand without having to register it and pay the sales tax?? Could make lemonade win-win?

I appreciate that! I might but I'm still looking at whatever options I might have. Been a long wait for something I really wanted and customized to then let go.

Bought mine tonight. First from Lotus Atlanta. Pick it up tomorrow once the monsoon stops.
How many miles would you expect to see on the odometer at the time of delivery? Do they put many miles on them before they leave the factory?

PDI occurs when a dealer takes a car into their inventory. These weren't (legally) part of dealer inventory and weren't PDI'd yet, because Lotus didn't actually sell the cars to the dealers until now.
To be even clearer about this, the costs associated with PDI are charged back to the manufacturer under the normal vehicle warranty process. If the car hasn't been sold by the manufacturer yet, there's no financial structure for them to charge a warranty claim.

So that's why PDI wouldn't have taken place when the cars came off the truck. Even if the dealer wanted to float the cost themselves, it's a dangerous game to play because if one of the vehicles needs something repaired or replaced that's discovered during the PDI, there's no way to go through that warranty process yet either.

I must say Porter, you are a wealth of information šŸ‘

Thanks Bobby! Just trying to help, I used to be the service manager of a dealership so I figure that some of the weird stuff about process might be worth sharing, particularly where I think it's probably non-obvious. šŸ˜ƒ

Working in the car business was a strange trip through a very odd pocket industry, one that has its own terminology and business practices that are completely unique in the US economy.

Still no call/email from my CARB state dealer. Going on a week since the official notice date... I'm guessing they are crafting a carefully worded email to explain that while they've been telling us repeatedly that our cars are at the Baltimore port for a few months now, in fact they were wrong, and they are still in the UK somewhere... so all those communications about cars trucking over from Baltimore right away once CARB was passed were in fact complete BS... "our bad"....

Cant get my car because its not at the dealer...Sitting...somewhere. Wanted to go pick up tomorrow.

  1. Lotus is Carb Approve
  2. Lotus can sell Emiras
  3. Lotus Has my Emira in USA since Decemberish
  4. I have the money ready to pay
  5. Car is not at dealer for me to buy
  6. ???
  7. ???
  8. Am I being unreasonable? I mean its comical at the point. Im not blaming dealer, but I think all around this is a shit show.
This is exactly what I was referring too on a previous post...not unreasonable at all. There should have at least been a "plan" to roll through deliveries from "Day 1 of CARB approval"...instead it appears to be another Lotus shit show, as everyone scrambles to find their vehicle, scheduled a pick up, etc. etc.

Feel really bad for you all in CARB states.
Just a total shit show. However once you finally get you cars you will not be disappointed.
